WA: WA police to rally over pay
PERTH, Aug 15 AAP - West Australian police officers were expected to rally outside
parliament house in Perth today to call for higher pay.
WA's Police Minister John Kobelke said officers deserved a pay rise, but it was up
to the police union to make a reasonable advance in discussions tomorrow.
"The commission requested the police union to present its counter-offer today, but
the union has asked that be delayed until tomorrow," the minister said.
"WA Police agree officers deserve a pay rise. The police union wants its members to
have a pay rise.
"The state government backs a pay rise and the public definitely agrees officers should
be paid more," Mr Kobelke said.
Police union spokesman, Mike Dean, said officers felt strongly about the pay issue,
and many would join today's rally at parliament house.
