NSW: Fires force evacuation of two unit blocks
SYDNEY, Dec 6 AAP - Separate fires forced the evacuation of two blocks of units in
Sydney early today.
Firefighters were this morning battling a fire at a unit block at Mt Druitt in Sydney's
west, while crews were mopping up after a blaze forced residents to evacuate a complex
at Castle Hill.
Crews were called to the Mt Druitt unit block just after 6am (AEDT), when a fire broke
out in the garbage chute of the Beames Ave building.
Three crews are working to contain the fire, which forced 15 people to evacuate the
three-storey building.
Earlier, a fire broke out in the garage of a block of units in Crane Rd at Castle Hill,
in Sydney's northwest.
The three-storey 50 unit block was evacuated at about 3am (AEDT).
Around 20 firefighters worked for two hours to extinguish the blaze, which destroyed
one of the units.
It is not yet known what caused the blazes.
