WA: Escaped convict recaptured after thirteen years
A convicted drug smuggler who escaped from a West Australian prison 13 years ago is
to appear in a Western Australian court today.
Police say FREEMAN ROY PAUGH escaped from the Bunbury Regional Prison in 1990 after
being sent to prison for four years for attempting to smuggle 100 kilograms of cannabis
into Australia on a yacht.
Kimberley District Superintendent FRED ZAGAMI says PAUGH was recaptured yesterday on
a plantation on the outskirts of the Kununurra townsite, 3,200 kilometres north of Perth.
A Western Australia police spokesman says public information led to the recapture of PAUGH.
PAUGH will appear in the Kununurra Court of Petty Sessions today.
